Press Release

At First National Bank of LaGrange, we provide trust and asset management services for portfolios representing more than $400 million in assets. Our trust officers are experienced professionals who will meet with you personally to review your financial situation. We’ll work with you to create an investment plan in consideration of your current lifestyle and to provide for your future life plans. Our services are flexible and functional so we can address your unique needs.

Our expertise goes beyond basic investment strategies for wealth management. Our trust officers will help you structure asset ownership so you can control your money while providing for life’s unexpected turns. We’ll also help you maneuver through the increasingly complex government regulations to ensure that your assets are managed profitably and according to your direction now and in the future.

Trust Administration Services
Establishing a trust is an ideal way to create and maintain financial security for you and your family. A trust provides for the long-term management of your assets according to your personal directions. It also provides continued management of your assets if you become incapacitated. A trust enables you to avoid probate, and you can realize significant tax savings on assets in a trust.

At First National Bank of LaGrange, we provide administration services for the following types of trusts:

  • testamentary trusts established under the terms of a will; and
  • living trusts for asset management established during your life.

In our capacity as trustee, our role is to safeguard the assets of the trust. We manage and invest them according to the objectives that you set forth in the trust agreement and in consideration of the needs of the trust beneficiaries.

Depending on the type of trust you establish, income may be paid to you as it is earned, or it may be reinvested to accommodate for your future needs, or the needs of your beneficiaries in the years to come.

Estate Planning and Settlement
Naming someone as the executor of an estate is no longer a simple, honorary designation for a relative or good friend. It is a serious financial responsibility.
Considering complex tax laws and asset management issues, even the executor of a seemingly simple estate needs the skills of an accountant, bill collector, investment advisor and tax expert to manage the estate responsibly.
When First National Bank of LaGrange is named in a will as executor, the trust officer assumes responsibility for the estate. This officer is a vital link to the decedent’s family to administer the financial affairs of the estate. He or she is always available to the estate beneficiaries to answer questions or discuss the progress of settling the estate.

As executor of an estate, First National Bank of LaGrange provides the following services:

  • locate, inventory and safeguard all estate assets, and establish asset values for tax and accounting purposes;
  • provide continuing management for income-producing real estate and business interests;
  • pay funeral expenses, legitimate claims of creditors, and expenses of administering the estate;
  • collect all debts owed to the decedent and defend the estate against invalid or improper claims;
  • assume responsibility for all estate, inheritance, income or gift tax returns required by state and federal authorities;
  • keep detailed records of all income, expenses and estate transactions and account for them to the court or to the beneficiaries; and
  • distribute the estate in accordance with the provisions of the decedent’s will.

The complexity of settling an estate is a real burden for a surviving spouse, relative, business associate or anyone who may not have the experience with such matters. Our trust officers can assist you throughout the entire process of planning and settling an estate. We’ll make sure the finances of the estate are managed according to the directions of the estate and in consideration of the beneficiaries.

Personal Investment Services
First National Bank of LaGrange offers additional services to investors and property owners in which we act as an agent on your behalf rather than as trustee or executor. In this regard, you don’t need the formality of a trust agreement or a will, and our involvement can be as extensive or minimal as you wish. We offer:

  • Portfolio by De$ign
    Portfolio by De$ign is an asset allocation service aimed at investors who are in the wealth building phase of their financial lifecycle. It is an excellent choice for anyone seeking guidance and direction to start a college education fund for children or grandchildren, to save for retirement or to manage an IRA rollover or recent inheritance. Portfolio by De$ign provides you with choices for a customized portfolio of highly rated, no-load mutual funds tailored to meet specific investment objectives. While there is no dollar minimum to open a Portfolio by De$ign account, the accounts typically range in size between $25,000 and $300,000.
  • Investment Management Services
    For full, personalized portfolio supervision, we will act as your agent to manage your investment portfolio, conducting investment transactions on your behalf and according to an agreement you sign with us. Our trust officers will meet with you personally to discuss your investment objectives. We will perform a complete portfolio investment analysis. We’ll work with you to determine the best action plan to achieve your goals. Then, we will act on your behalf to implement your plan and invest your assets accordingly.

    Our Investment Management trust officers will continue meeting with you periodically to review comprehensive reports and discuss the progress of your accounts and any changes in your investment strategy, financial goals or lifestyle requirements.

  • Investment Advisory Services
    Designed specifically for busy, part-time investors, this service is similar to our Investment Management Services, but we act in the capacity of an advisor for you rather than as an agent conducting transactions on your behalf. You will approve all investment decisions and changes in advance.

  • Custody Services
    Our custody services are designed to take all the pain out of the paperwork. In this capacity, we do not offer investment advice or recommendations for managing your portfolio. However, just as in any trust or agency relationship, we perform all of the time-consuming administrative chores involved in owning securities. We will do everything from clipping coupon bonds to depositing dividends to your accounts. Proceeds are remitted according to your directions. We immediately notify you of any events that may affect your holdings. You also get detailed statements of all transactions in the account, which are invaluable when you prepare your tax returns.
